Experience Fjordlandet by bike
The Fjordland is located far away from everyday life, only 30 minutes from Copenhagen
Fjordlandet is Copenhagen’s green front yard – a scenic area around the cities of Roskilde, Frederikssund and Lejre. A wealth of unique experiences await you here – from the UNESCO World Heritage Site at Roskilde Cathedral to Viking life at the Viking ship Museum in Roskilde and in The Land of Legends in Lejre and Viking Games in Frederikssund, and add to that the impressive nature of National Park Skjoldungernes Land.
Welcome to Fjordlandet – let the saga begin!
Cycling holiday in Fjordlandet:
Fjordlandet offers a wide range of beautiful cycling routes of all levels of difficulty. On two wheels you can experience the Fjordlandet up close and feel the touch of history.
With its unique, hilly Ice Age landscape, varied nature, many villages, farm shops and short distances, Fjordlandet is the ideal area for short and long tours for the whole family and for the trained cyclist.

Roskilde Cathedral – UNESCO World Heritage
Roskilde Cathedral – A royal journey through time
Roskilde Cathedral is the finest church building in Denmark; a medieval Gothic cathedral, royal burial church and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Hear the dragon hiss, descend into dark crypts or find peace under the high vaults.
Roskilde Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, takes you on a journey through 800 years of architecture and is Denmark’s royal burial church with the tombs of 40 monarchs. In addition to the mausoleums and coffins of the kings, there are other valuable pieces of equipment. Among them the gilded Antwerp altarpiece, which was made around 1500-1560 and shows scenes from the childhood and passion of Jesus.
The Viking Ship Museum
Visit the Viking Ship Museum – home to 5 world-renowned Viking ships.
The Viking Ship Museum presents the five original Viking ships unearthed in Roskilde Fjord in 1962. Current special exhibitions and a film on the excavation of the ships can also be seen in the museum.
It is also possible to experience the reconstruction of the Viking ships up close, as they are rebuilt using pure muscle power and the original tools, as in the Viking Age.
Sailing trips on Roskilde Fjord
There is also a unique opportunity to try out Viking life at sea with your own oars by sailing in a reconstructed boat on the fjord. The offer is valid in the summer season when daily sailing trips depart from the museum harbor.
Tours last approximately an hour, and tickets can be purchased from the museum’s ticket office while they last.
