In the middle of Skjoldungernes Land National Park, you will find Sct. Hans Garden. Sct. Hans Garden is a recreational garden with an organic café, shop, and a nursery selling organic herbs and flowers. The garden is located along Fjordstien, which connects this historic garden with the town of Roskilde and Boserup forest.

Sct. Hans Have is a recreational garden, a meeting place with cafe and horticulture and an excursion destination close to both Roskilde city, Boserup Forest and Roskilde Fjord.

Café, Shop, and Nursery

The café offers delightful lunches, flower-decorated cakes, a good cup of coffee, and refreshing lemonades. Everything is made from scratch using organic ingredients from their own garden or the local area. The food can be enjoyed under vine and fig trees in the old greenhouses or in the lovely berry garden with the sky as ceiling.

Fruit and vegetables have been grown in the garden for as long as there has been a psychiatric hospital at Sankt Hans – that is, for over 200 years. Today, organic berries, fruits, herbs, mushrooms, and edible flowers are cultivated – which are used in the kitchen.

You can also visit the small shop and nursery, where you will find all kinds of home decor, gardening books, and organic edible plants for your own garden or balcony.

10 Years with Sct. Hans Garden

Throughout the year, there are various events at Sct. Hans Garden; both in the chapel, in the greenhouses, and of course outside in the beautiful green surroundings.

In 2024, Sct. Hans Have celebrates its 10th anniversary, and this is celebrated throughout the year with a series of events.

Opening Hours 2024

Sct. Hans Garden’s summer season 2024 runs until week 42. The café, shop, and nursery are open from 11 AM to 5 PM on all weekends and holidays, and in the month of June also on Fridays. It is not possible to reserve a table in the café.

Enjoy christmas at Sct. Hans Garden with baked Christmas goods and the Christmas market is open from November 9th to December 15th.

Events in Sct. Hans Have

In the nearby chapel, Sct. Hans Have every year a number of cultural events and happenings. During the season, concerts and art exhibitions are presented in the chapel and Yoga and Tai Chi Chuan outside.

The garden, café, and nursery invite citizens who are vulnerable in life to work alongside the garden’s volunteers and gardeners in tending the garden. Delicious cakes, sturdy fig trees, a well-swept path, and a delightful communal lunch offer more than just good taste and vitality to the garden. Being together with others to create something significant and appreciated is one of the pathways to improved mental health.

In this way, Sct. Hans Have builds on the site’s unique history and nearly 200 years of tradition in local self-sufficiency and the treatment of mental illness.
