Odin from Lejre on a space mission
As part of the Huginn mission launched 26th of August 2023, the Danish astronaut Andreas Mogensen carries a replica of the unique Odin silver figurine from Lejre. The figurine symbolizes the pursuit of new knowledge and aims to increase awareness of Denmark’s and Lejre’s captivating Viking history.
According to Norse mythology, Odin had two ravens – Huginn and Muninn – who would fly out and assist the great deity in gathering knowledge about the world. Seeking new knowledge is also the goal of the upcoming space journey, which is why Andreas Mogensen named the mission after Odin’s raven, Huginn.
The space voyage, supported by the American and European space agencies NASA and ESA, is headed to the International Space Station, where Andreas Mogensen and his colleagues will conduct a series of scientific experiments and tests over six months.
