J.F. Willumsens Museum
The museum is a colour explosion in all the colours of the rainbow – perfect to stimulate the senses of both children and adults. J.F. Willumsen’s works include paintings, sculptures, ceramics, graphics, photography and architecture. And in all the many art forms his sense of colors, shapes and story-telling play an important part.
J.F. Willumsens Museum was inaugurated in 1957, established by a deed of gift to Frederikssund Municipality from the artist himself (1863-1958). The gift included his own work as a painter, sculptor, potter, photographer and architect, in addition to his private art collection, the Old Collection. Stylistically Willumsen worked with naturalism, symbolism and expressionism, but his strong, expressive colours attest to the fact that he had his own distinct style.
The museum has a long tradition of hosting special exhibitions, where contemporary artists are invited to enter into a dialogue with Willumsen and his art.
