A guide to the best fishing spots in Fjordlandet

Some of Fjordlandet’s very best fishing spots are described below. There are of course many more that are worth a visit, depending on the weather and water levels.

Fishingzealand.dk describes additional places to fish along the coast and also has a list of certified fishing guides, several of whom are area experts.

Hammer Bakker

Hammer Bakker, located south of the Orø ferry landing along the eastern shore of Isefjord, is an excellent seatrout spot close to depth curves with great tidal currents and varied bottom conditions that alternate between bladderwracks, rocks, sand and mussel beds. Especially during spring, the fishing is superb, particularly towards the small bay east of Hammer Bakker point. During the autumn the fish tend to stack up to the north, behind Nordhammer Bådelaug, where the bottom is quite soft, so wade carefully. A small parking lot is available immediately to the left at you apprach the Hammer Bakker ferry landing.

Kulhuse Harbour

Kulhuse Harbour is a great place to park, and there are several good fishing opportunities in the area. From the piers, you can reach deeper waters with sandy bottom, and here you can catch placie and European flounder using hook-and-sinker rigs and rag- or lugworms for bait. If you’re mostly into seatrout (or garfish), the whole stretch to the south is interesting. Here, there are lots of sandbanks that fish well – especially during fall and spring, when the water temperatures are moderate.

Kyndbyværket

Kyndbyværket (the Kundby Powerplant) is situated northeast of Orø, and both to the south and north of the powerplant, there are exciting coastal stretches that offer great seatrout fishing. You can park at Kundby Huse, right before the powerplant, at a parking spot close to the water. From here, you can fish the big bay to the south. If you continue further south, you can fish the small islands that are found here. The whole area houses seatrout throughout the year, but especially during fall, the bay and its reefs and sandbars can offer great fishing. The wading conditions are perfect and there is lots of water to cover.

Lerskrænten

Lerskrænten is accessed via Boserup Forest and one of its public parking lots. Here, you’ll find a big bay, which can offer great fishing for seatrout – especially during the cold winter months. During fall, lots of fish migrate here in preparation for the spawning, and it’s a great place to hook up with one of the fjord’s trophy fish – although most of them will be colored up at this time of the year. The whole bay offers varied bottom features and, oftentimes, the fish are found right along the sandy edges and patches of eelgrass further out. Lerskrænten (The Clay Buff) itself is found to the east, and from here, and to the north, you’ll find deeper water with rocks and scattered mussel reefs – a great place to locate big fish.

Kattinge Vig

Kattinge Vig is one of Roskilde Fjord’s most popular spots – and with good reason! The easiest thing is to park at Kattinge Værket and hike through the forest to the north and arrive at the fjord east of the conservation zone at the Kornerup River estuary. From here, you fish the coastal stretch to the east, and – especially during fall – there are great chances of running into big seatrout here. Mainly, concentrate on the depth curves 25 – 50 meters out.

Bolund

Bolund is a coastal spot that is quite eye-catching. When driving from Roskilde via the main road (E6), Bolund will appear on your left-hand side after Risø. It’s a peculiar peninsula with its own parking lot, and it’s a fairly short walk to get to it. You can fish for seatrout all the way around the peninsula, but especially the southern- and outer parts of it are good. Here, there are plenty of big rocks, lots of seaweeds, and great tidal currents.

Bramsnæs Vig

Bramsnæs Vig is a picturesque little bay situated north of the Munkholm Bridge. Getting there requires a good, long walk – but it’s well worth the effort. The bay itself offers great fishing along sandy flats with scattered rocks, bladderwracks, and mussels. Especially during spring, after ice-off, when the seatrout are gorging on ragworms, the fishing can be spectacular. Ragworm imitations or – even better – live ragworms fished on bombarda floats is a safe bet for this location. The whole bay can hold fish, but one shouldn’t forget the outside of the Bramsnæs peninsula. Lots of great fish have been caught here, and the fishing is less seasonal than the pocket fishing inside the bay.

Ejby

Ejby is a coastal stretch north of Ejby River – past the conservation zone at the mouth of the river. Park at Solbakken Camping and fish to the north. The whole stretch here can offer great seatrout fishing. The area is characterized by varying bottom conditions with rocks, bladderwracks, sandbars, and scattered mussel beds. In other words, this is perfect seatrout habitat – and especially during spring and fall (September – November), there are a good deal of migratory fish here. The summer months can also provide good fishing, especially if you concentrate your efforts around dusk and dawn.

Munkholmbroen

Throughout the season, Munkholmbroen offers exciting and popular fishing. In the winter months, you can experience a hectic sea trout fishing in the area around the bridge and at Munkholm, where a lot of fish pass by. Munkholmen can be enormously exciting to wade and both the north and the south can throw off beautiful fish. In addition, herring and garfish can be fished under the bridge in the month of May, and in July and August you can find feral mackerel here, which can be caught with a squirrel and mackerel fish. You can park on Munkholmen or on the public parking lot just east of the Munkholm bridge.
